cool video. sounds like it’s probably not my “cup of tea”. i tend to like sweeter ones, or ones with more character to them, but i can definitely get an idea of what it tastes like. keep up the videos. rock on.

I had a question… Are most teas 1tsp (roughly) to every 8oz… I noticed all except one had 1tsp as the recommended amount. Thanks for any responses torwards this topic… I have my first shipment of tea from Adagio coming in next week.

That’s a really great question. For most teas, you are going to be using 1tsp per 8oz cup, but for a lot of white teas and tisanes you’ll use 1.5tsp per cup. Generally these kinds of teas are a little lighter in flavor, so that extra .5tsp (and longer brewing time in a lot of cases) is to ensure that you get enough flavor in the cup.

Oh I forgot to mention what I was getting…. Diggnation sampler… Beronica’s Berry something from Tekzilla… and the ingenuTea 16oz thing. I’ll comment after I’ve tried a couple different things.
I’ve been meaning to pick up a sample of this tea for quite awhile.
I’ve heard so many great things. I need a nice, hearty tea in the morning besides my typical Earl Grey Bravo.
Genmai Cha typically contains puffed rice and popcorn, so those pieces in the tea are indeed popped corn, not just popped rice.
The brewed tea is such a pretty color, too! And I really love your mug. Hehe.
Chrissy – There’s actually really no corn in genmai cha. The popcorn pieces are rice that pop during the roasting process. Popcorn is much bigger — even unpopped corn kernels are bigger than the little “popcorns” in the tea. However, since the little popped rice pieces look like popcorn, it’s gained the misnomer “popcorn tea.”
The mug I used in this one is Teavana’s Yves mug, which is only $15, a GREAT price for an all-glass mug and infuser. In previous episodes, I used a similar looking one from Adagio (available for $19), and Derek has one from Trendglas called ZYCLO (around $20). The Yves from Teavana is definitely the most budget-friendly, but the Adagio one is the best for finer teas, as the glass infusers allow some sifting through of finer teas (like the genmaicha). (I’ve also used the Bodum Yoyo in one episode. It’s a fun one too!) We plan on having a little video about all of our tea mugs/infusers, as well as some of our tea pots and other accessories, in the near future — because, as you can see, we get pretty nerdy about those too.

The high pitch noise you hear is actually something I’m very aware of; it’s an issue with my computer (MacBook) and its built-in mic and camera interfering with each other. Not everyone can hear it (although I can, so you’re not crazy or anything), so I wasn’t sure if it was an issue with most people… but since you’ve pointed it out, I’ve googled it a little it and think I can find a solution. Hopefully you won’t hear it in the next review!
